Physical therapists are health care professionals who maintain, restore, and improve movement, activity, and health enabling individuals of all ages to have optimal functioning and quality of life, while ensuring patient safety and applying evidence to provide efficient and effective care.

Physical therapists are involved in promoting health, wellness, and fitness through risk factor identification and the implementation of services to reduce risk, slow the progression of or prevent functional decline and disability, and enhance participation in chosen life situations.

The profession has outlined the following elements of patient/client management:
Examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and outcome assessment. Through execution of this process, the physical therapist determines whether physical therapy services are needed and develops the plan of care in collaboration with the patient/client/caregiver.

With a huge push towards expanding physical therapy’s evidence base, there is every reason to believe that patients will benefit from interventions that are scientifically sound and appropriately provided, and that produce Cost-effective outcomes.
